Our Reading Garden

The Fruitville Reading Garden was opened Oct. 26, 2003, with the collaboration between Sarasota County Government, the Friends of the Fruitville Library, horticulturists, architects, Audubon Society and Garden Club members, local nursery owners and artists.

The Reading Garden attracts several species of butterflies and birds, has herb and scented plants, fruit trees, Florida native plants, cacti and succulents, ground cover and ornamental grasses, flowering trees, bromeliads and more.

Walk along the engraved brick path under the arbors and relax on a bench in a shaded area or in the Storybook Cottage and enjoy the sculptures, the fountain, and the beautiful landscaping. You are sure to see a butterfly!

The Friends of the Fruitville Library, along with Volunteer Master Gardeners and Sarasota County Public Works continue to work together to maintain and enhance the Reading Garden.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Reading Garden or having a brick engraved, please complete the Brick Order Form or pick one up at the Library or call 861-2500 for more information. Your contributions are tax deductable.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the online application.
