The Friends of the Fruitville Public Library Board of Directors members are volunteers from the community who are dedicated to supporting the Fruitville Library’s mission to serve the children, youth, and adults of Sarasota County and beyond. They give their time and talents to ensure the success of the Fruitville Friends.
Board members attend monthly meetings, lead or serve on a standing or event committee, assume board/committee leadership roles for projects and activities, are aware of their community, and are willing to network within that community on behalf of the Friends of the Fruitville Library.
Areas of Board expertise include Finance, Membership, the Friends Bookstore, and the Reading Garden.
Board members are expected to:
- Join the Friends at a level of their choosing
- Attend meetings regularly
- Promote, attend and assist with Friends’ functions
- Promote the Friends by spreading the word about membership and events
- Assist in Fundraising events
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Meeting Room at the Fruitville Library. A map is here.
Friends’ decisions are guided by its bylaws and mission statement.
Board members are elected for a three-year term by membership vote at the Annual Meeting held in January. Officers may serve additional terms with Board approval. Newly elected Board members take office immediately.
Three non-voting members also serve on the Board: the Library Manager, Bookstore Manager, and Master Gardener Representative.
